Help sponsor a York City player’s shirt

TOOAB Player Sponsorship 2021/22

It’s that time of year when we join together to sponsor York City players for the coming season. All in the name of ‘There’s Only One Arthur Bottom’.

Over the last ten seasons, we have sponsored a total of 46 players. Last season we sponsored seven players – Michael Duckworth, Michael Woods, Scott Barrow, Jack Redshaw, Archie Whitfield, Rob Guilfoyle and Harry Flatters.

If you would like to help towards the cost of sponsorship for the 2021/22 season, please make a contribution by any of the following methods …

  • Cash or Cheque, payable to Ian Tyssen, to Ian Tyssen, 84 Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York, YO23 2SX
  • PayPal link https://www.paypal.me/IanTyssen
  • Bank transfer to account 00088854 sort code 309999

The minimum payable for entry to the sponsorship group is £10 but there is no maximum. The bigger the contribution, the more entries you will have in the end of season prize draw to win the signed shirts.

The draw for the 2020/21 season signed shirts will take place as soon as they have been received from the football club.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at ian.tyssen@hotmail.com

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

York City Past Players Charity Golf Day

With some Covid-19 restrictions now being lifted, we are very confident that this year’s York City Past Players Charity Golf Day will go ahead at Pike Hills Golf Course on Thursday July 22, 2021.

Last year we supported Daniel Parslow’s Benefit Year and Headway as Daniel’s nominated charity, and we have decided to donate all proceeds from this years’ event to “Headway, the brain injury association”  with many footballers now being affected by neurological disorders.

A team of four people, in addition to their game of golf, will each receive a bacon sandwich and coffee prior to their round finishing with a bar meal for a cost of £120 per team. Further details and application forms from gram.badbury@virgin.net

As we embark upon the club’s centenary season we are mindful to celebrate and remember some of the players that represented our favourite football team in its one hundred year history. We are therefore asking if there are any fans or businesses who would like to sponsor a tee-sign named after a player?

Already the Fenton family have requested that tee number 11 is named after City legend Billy Fenton, tee number 10 has been chosen by Dick Hewitt’s son, Richard, and Mark Granger has grabbed the number 1 tee for his father, Mick. These are particularly special as these family members have regularly played in previous golf days. Mick Granger, himself played in the early competitions along with team mates, Dave Dunmore, Alan Woods and Gerry Baker.

We are not necessarily trying to match players with a tee/shirt number but more appropriately get a squad of eighteen selected players to be represented around the course.

The cost of each tee sign, with a picture of the player and name of the sponsor (designed by fellow Arthurite, Andrew Leathley), will cost £40 (all payment details from gram.bradbury@virgin.net).

Our aim is to showcase an array of former City stars from all eras to support our fundraising efforts.

You don’t have to play golf to sponsor a tee sign – so please support us if you can. Thank you.

Second volume of landmark book on way

Bootham Crescent: A Second Home – Order Information for Part Two

Part two of Bootham Crescent: A Second Home, by Paul Bowser, will be published shortly, and covers the period 1960 – 1993, culminating in York City’s play-off success at Wembley on that famous day in May 1993.

It is hardback production of around 270 A4 pages covering three remarkable decades in the development of the ground and the performances of the team. It was the period where wider events began to shape the ground, leading to more seats, less terracing, the disappearance of most of the white picket fencing, and the appearance of the hospitality boxes. Sadly, it was the tragic death of David Longhurst which resulted in the biggest change to Bootham Crescent in that era. The ground also hosted rugby league for the first time, and featured American football and a rock n’ roll concert, but football always took centre stage. York City FC, as ever, had its share of ups and downs, with five promotions, five relegations, a first taste of Second Division football, and more stirring FA Cup deeds.

Those who pre-order before Sunday May 9 will have their name added to the subscriber list within the book.

A third book will most likely be published in 2022. This will be a separate edition with a separate subscription list, and will cover the period from 1993 onwards including the final days of Bootham Crescent and the first games at the LNER Community Stadium.

Part one of the book is now sold out, but if there is sufficient demand a reprint will be considered.
